3D Biz Expo 2007 – Technology, Business & Markets For 3D Stereoscopic Displays
July 26, 2007OBJECTIVE
The 3D industry (stereoscopic, volumetric and holographic) is much more diverse and rich than most people realize. There are over 40 distinct market/application segments offering 3D solutions today. But there is little awareness of these applications across the industry, which is hindering sharing of technology and solutions. There is also a key need to educate the customer community about the maturity and sophistication of 3D solutions. All this is needed to move the 3D industry from a series of niche applications to a broad market force with mainstream solutions.
As a result, Insight Media (IM) and the US Display Consortium (USDC) have organized the 3D Business Symposium & Exhibition (3D Biz-Ex). Our goal is create a “Big Tent” environment that will bring together developers, providers and customers in all of these 3D market/application segments. This has never been done before, and we believe it will create a unique environment for attendees to:
- Gage the full scope of the diverse 3D industry
- Learn about other 3D applications
- Network with other leaders in the industry
- Develop technology/solution partnerships
- Help customers understand the maturity and benefits of 3D solutions
- Allow leaders to understand the key business issues facing market expansion
- Enable greater understanding of technology innovations, market dynamics and strategic opportunities
- Lay the groundwork for a major exhibition expansion in 2008
CONFERENCE OVERVIEW
Our goal is to create the largest US-based event focused on the 3D industry. Consequently, 3D Biz-Ex will consist of two parts.
- A symposium consisting of presentations and panel discussions about technology, markets, opportunities and business issues
- An exhibition where the latest 3D components and solutions in a variety of market/application segments will be shown.
The symposium will feature key industry leaders who will present data, analysis, innovations, forecasts, business solutions, market opportunities, hurdles and challenges within the varied 3D industry. The goal is to help the industry identify ways to overcome challenges and to take advantage of opportunities to grow the market. (See preliminary agenda sessions below.)
The exhibition will complement the symposium by showcasing state-of-the-art 3D components, technology and solutions across the diverse 3D market. This is designed to help educate and assure potential customers about 3D solutions and to facilitate cross-pollination among industry providers to help advance solutions. The exhibition will be open for conference attendees only on September 18, and open to the general public on September 19 from 10am-3pm.
Note: exhibition space is limited in 2007, so reserve a space early. Our goal is to expand the exhibition significantly in 2008 and the conference organizers welcome your input on this expansion. We invite you to attend this important event to take advantage of the extraordinary opportunity to meet with industry professionals and media representatives. Please go to www.3dBizEx.com for the latest updates on this event.

The Final Frontier – Digital Technology Is Changing Cinema
July 16, 2007A rapidly growing number of cinemas are going digital. Over 3,000 North American screens have been converted, nearly two-thirds of them in the past year. Some download films and advertisements via satellite, and others have films delivered on hard drives (which are a lot smaller, lighter and cheaper than big reels of film). America’s biggest chains, which have lagged behind, will start to convert cinemas next year. And Europe, which has trailed even further, should catch up thanks to a deal announced this month with two Hollywood studios.
